Scaling digital delivery from hundreds to tens of thousands
Took annual digital delivery from 968 (2017) to 46,000+ (2024) across 20+ platforms by rebuilding workflows and in-house infrastructure.
Key outcome
968 → 46,000+ annual deliveries
Executive summary
Took annual digital delivery from 968 (2017) to 46,000+ (2024) across 20+ platforms by rebuilding workflows and in-house infrastructure.
Situation
A growing independent studio was delivering under 1,000 titles a year through manual, person-dependent workflows while platform demand and the 4K/HDR transition accelerated.
Challenge
Demand was rising faster than the team could grow. Manual delivery, inconsistent specs, and ad hoc tracking capped throughput and introduced errors at exactly the wrong time.
My role
As Sr. Director of Production Operations, Nick owned the delivery operation and the infrastructure decisions behind it.
Actions
- 01Mapped the end-to-end delivery workflow and standardized platform specs and QC.
- 02Built in-house transcode, transfer, and archive infrastructure for global distribution.
- 03Led the transition to 4K/HDR delivery and international localization.
- 04Maintained a custom metadata database and company-wide scheduling.
Systems involved
Results
- Annual deliveries grew roughly 47x — from 968 (2017) to 46,000+ (2024).
- Reach expanded to 20+ platforms including Netflix, Amazon, Pluto, and Roku.
- 4K/HDR and localized delivery became standard, not exceptional.
Transferable value
The same approach — standardize the workflow, build the infrastructure, then automate — scales any high-volume fulfillment operation that is hitting a manual ceiling.
